I’m often asked what is the meaning of the shopping & coupon acronyms that are used frequently on shopping blogs and frugal living blogs.  So to make it easy for you, I am compiling a list of the most commonly used acronyms.

  • AY = A coupon found in the All You Magazine (can be purchased at Walmart or Online)
  • B1G1 OR BOGO = Buy one, Get one free
  • B2G1 = Buy two, get one free
  • Blinkies = Machines at the store (located next to the promoted item) that hold coupons you can grab right then to use on your products.   They typically are read and have a blinking light, thus the name.
  • Catalina = Coupon printers at the checkout registers that prints out coupons during/after your transaction for you to use on your next shopping trip.
  • Dead = Offer no long valid
  • DND = Do not double (coupon value)
  • DNT = Do not triple (coupon value)
  • ECB - Extra Care Bucks – CVS Money
  • EX or X = Expiration Date
  • FAR = Free After Rebate
  • Filler = Item purchased to reach a minimum total in order to get a deal.
  • GC = gift card
  • GM = General Mills
  • HTH = Hope that helps
  • IP = Internet Printable
  • IVC = Instant Value Coupon (found in the monthly Walgreens Easy Saver Booklet)
  • MC   or MQ = Manufacturer’s coupons
  • MIR = Mail in Rebate
  • NED = No expiration date
  • OOP = Out of pocket
  • OYNO = On your next order (meaning when a coupon prints, you can use it on your next order)
  • PG = Procter and Gamble (coupon insert from newspaper)
  • RP = Red Plum (coupon insert from newspaper)
  • SS = SmartSource (coupon insert from newspaper)
  • Stacking = Using both a “store” coupon and a “manufacturer’s coupon” on one item
  • TBC = The Blessed Couponer
  • TMF = Try me free offer
  • UPC = Universal Product Code (those black straight lines with numbers under them on your product packing – it identifies the products.
  • YMMV = Your Mileage May Vary (deal may work for someone else, but it may not work for you … may be regional)
