So you think you want to start a blog? Are you sure it is a blog that you want? Or is it a website that you want? The difference?
As a blogger baby starting my own blog in 2010 was a challenge. I didn’t know really what a blog was but as I started following a couple of frugal living/coupon blogs, I decided it looked like fun. Fun it is … but don’t let it fool you, it is a lot of work! Luckily for me, a blog is what I wanted to create. Now, don’t get me wrong, I really didn’t know the difference between a blog and a website, but I just knew that I love to shop, to give and to save money and wanted to share information with others. Now “share” is the key word … not “sell” … for a blog.
What is a Blog?
To some a blog is a virtual diary – a way to express your feelings, dreams, goals, etc. with other people. To others, it is an avenue to share information, tips, tools & resources on a subject that is close to your heart. You may like cooking … you may like shopping and saving money … you may enjoy researching personal finance information. What ever the topic that you enjoy, a blog can be created to reflect your interest and knowledge.
A blog is a platform for you to “share” information and you would be updating the blog on a regular basis with new information. It is called a “dynamic” site – a site that constantly changes.
What is a Website?
Much like a blog, it is a place to share information, but more importantly it is a place to “sell” information, product or service. A person may want to create a website for a small local business they own or a service (such as tutoring services) they provide. A website would give the information that is needed to promote your business and to sell the product or service that you are providing.
A website is a platform for you to “sell” information, product or service and the information provided would not be changing. It is called a “static” site – a site that stays the same.
So with that pertinent information in mind, you’ve decided to create a “Blog” and now what? I am still learning the ropes of blogging, but I am excited to share my blogging knowledge (and lack of) with you in an effort to make it easier for you. If you have any questions just write your questions in the comments area and either myself or another TBC reader will share their knowledge.
